Fatty acids for health support
- brain & heart health
- immunity support
- from flaxseed oil
We eat different types of fat, like saturated fat that we get from animal products or unsaturated fat, which we can find in plant oils. These differ in their flexibility due to their chemical structure, with unsaturated fats being more flexible and having a double bond. If unsaturated fats have multiple double bonds, they are called polyunsaturated fats.
There is a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids which are called omega fatty acids – there are three types of them. Omega-3 and omega-6 are those that we can only get from food, while omega-9 are those we can make in small amounts but usually get from food.
Each of the omegas plays an important role in keeping us healthy.
Keeping inflammation down
The three key omega-3s support a lot of our health. They make up cell membranes, which is key in helping the skin healthy and hydrated. They help fight inflammation. They prevent worsening of eyesight with age, keep the heart strong and healthy, and help us remember things.
Supporting immunity
Omega-6 fatty acids can be used by the body for energy. They are also important for the functioning of our immune system. We must pay attention to the amount of these fatty acids we eat, as the balance between omega-3 and omega-6s is key for health.
Controlling blood sugar
Omega-9 helps to balance good cholesterol with bad cholesterol, and helps you become more sensitive to insulin. This ensures you’re controlling your blood sugar levels. Omega-9 can also be used to make an imperfect substitute for the other omegas should their levels run too low.
It’s important for a healthy diet to contain all three of the omegas, preferably in the correct ratio, with more omega-3s compared to the others. Maxler Omega-3-6-9 Complex provides around four times omega-3s compared to omega-6s, obtained from organic flaxseed oil.
